Abstract:Energy is a scarce resource in ad hoc mobile networks, making power control a crucial technique. For sake of simplicity, most existing power control protocols only consider the energy cost of transmissions. In this paper, we consider a more realistic model of power control in which the energy cost of the receiving nodes is also taken into account. This paper presents protocols that can not only achieve energy savings but can actually increase the effectiveness by bringing significant energy savings per successful packet for denser networks.
