| Abstract: | Singapore is embarking its next phase of growth as the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has initiated plans and goals of creating a more dense mix of uses in the business area of the city. A substantial portion of this growth is occurring on reclaimed land just east of the city's Central Business District — and will further strengthen Singapore's presence in the vast enterprise of Asia. This paper documents a major residential development project: The Sail @ Marina Bay — and will discuss the design of this iconic residential tower; its economic, social, and cultural implications and show how substantial transformations may occur as a result of a strong design vision. |
