| Abstract: | In order to understand the long-time evolution of initially uniform wave trains in deep water, a series of elaborate experiments were carried out in a super wave flume at Tainan Hydraulics Laboratory. The development of wave front, the evolution of side-bands, and the non-dimensional amplitude evolution of fundamental frequency and two side-bands were studied. According to the results obtained, it is found that the side-bands evolution of initially regular wave in deep water is closely related to the initially wave steepness (k0a0), and that the exponential growth of side-bands amplitudes appears in the initial development stage in the case of larger wave steepness, and then amplitude of lower side-band is greater than upper side-band after wave breaking. Moreover, an interesting recurrence process was also observed in our experiments. | |
