| Abstract: | Evaluation of wave breaking due to Mach-stem development is important. However, there has been little literature dealing with the breaker height of Mach-stem waves. An experiment using regular waves is carried out to predict the breaker height of Mach-stem. Mach-stem breaking is quite different from breaking of oblique standing waves. It is observed that Mach-stem breaking is violent. The Mach-stem breaker height along the vertical wall changes with the incident wave angle. For the small incident wave angle, the breaker height of Mach-stem becomes small. For the incident wave angle of 15 degrees, the wave crest bends, becoming normal to the wall, and almost no reflected waves appear. In this wave crest pattern, prediction of the breaking of Mach-stem is possible by substituting wave height along the wall in the breaker index of progressive waves. |
