Abstract:Fast oxidation of porous silicon in air was found to manifest itself as a combustion or an explosion. The combustion process takes place in porous layers with a thickness smaller than 60 µm, while the explosion is observed in thicker layers. The explosion is supposed to develop via thermal overheating due to an exponent increase of the reaction rate with the temperature rise.
