Abstract:The concern of this article is a detailed 3D-analysis of the ethmoid bone based on CT data stemming from the clinical routine. By special preprocessing, a semiautomatic segmentation of the fine structures was possible. The subsequent surface reconstruction delivered a three dimensional representation of the anatomical details including the labyrinths, the nasal conchae, and the nasal septum. By a combination of computer graphics modules, a qualitative volumetric visualization of the bone mineral density could be given. A detail analysis revealed the refined inner structure of the nasal septum.
