| Abstract: | Developments toward a nonlinear and fully dispersive irregular-wave model in two horizontal dimensions are presented. The model relies on time stepping the two free surface boundary conditions with a closure between the horizontal and vertical velocity expressed in terms of a convolution integral. The formulation is fully explicit in space and thus no equations need to be solved. The convolution integral involves an exponentially decaying impulse response function. In practice, this reduces the infinite limits of the integral to horizontal distances of only several water depths. Generalization from constant to variable bathymetry is investigated by introducing a slight distortion of the local horizontal coordinates. |
