| Abstract: | This paper presents a modified model for the prediction of the wave decay after wave breaking on beaches. The wave energy-flux equation involving the energy dissipation was adopted in the model. The energy dissipation rate presented in this study was assumed to be nonlinear proportion to the difference between the local energy flux and the stable energy flux. The best values of the relative coefficients in the energy-flux equation were obtained from the laboratory data based on the least-squares-error procedure. The present model performs well for the prediction of the wave decay in the surf zone based on the comparisons to the laboratory data. The results show that the predictions are available for a fairly wide range of beach slopes from very gentle to very steep. |
