Abstract:The STWAVE spectral wave model has been upgraded to include spatially variable winds, surge, bottom friction, and full-plane propagation and generation. The model has been applied to simulations of Hurricane Katrina, and compared to the limited wave data available in Lake Pontchartrain. A two-scale approximation of the nonlinear four-wave interaction source term is under development. The two-scale approximation is skillful in representing the full wave-wave interactions with a computational time of approximately three times the Discrete Interaction Approximation.
