Abstract:The paper presents an effective and accurate approach towards a medium-term (~decades) modeling of circulation and wind wave processes in a shallow tidal sea. The method is based on a high-resolution modeling with the hydrodynamic model Delft3D and a spectral wave model SWAN, combined with a principal component analysis/neural network technique. The approach enables a very effective simulation of the analyzed phenomena and is shown to give satisfactory results in the whole study area. It enables, among other things, to generate input data for morphodynamic modeling, for studies concerning the concept of a morphologically representative wave or the load on coastal protection structures.
