| Abstract: | This paper proposes an approach to active absorption of reflected waves in a numerical wave flume that makes use of Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) control strategy. Numerical simulations using the shallow water equations are presented to support the use of PID control methods. Standard PID controllers allow three adjustable parameters. Manual tuning is applied to obtain appropriate values for the three parameters. Simulations showing the feasibility of using PID control strategies are conducted with sinusoidal left boundary conditions with more than one frequency component along with a fully reflective right boundary. | |
