Abstract:Hua-Lien Harbor is located in a long and straight coast and hence a complete study on the influence of infragravity edge wave to the harbor should include the coast. This study starts with surveys on theoretical computation and both the applicability and accuracy of the theory are discussed. It is concluded that the exact resonance between the varying breaking points and the edge wave phase has to be satisfied, or the theoretical prediction will one-order over predict the growth rate. For the bathymetry in Hua-Lien, Stokes edge waves of 100-200 second period are shown to dominate and this observation will significantly simplify the calculation. Finally, we analyze new field data and some evidences of infragravity edge wave are shown.
