| Abstract: | Field observations of longshore currents near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina have been made using both the optical current meter technique and in situ instrumentation. The procedure for providing quantified estimates of the longshore current from the video imagery is briefly described. Time series of the longshore current from both the in situ instruments and the video estimates are compared showing good agreement at least for the very low frequency variations. In addition, reasonable cross-shore profiles of the longshore current are obtained from the video. |
